Rumours and leaks have been circulating online about a new Xbox Series X set to release in 2024. These reports carry significant weight as the source is Microsoft itself.

This upcoming release is not a next-generation console but a refresh of the current Xbox Series X. Here are the details you can expect from this new hardware update.
Release Date of the New Xbox Series X
Expected Release: Late 2024
During the FTC vs. Microsoft trial regarding the Activision Blizzard acquisition, leaked documents revealed the expected release date for the new Xbox Series X, code-named Brooklin. The documents suggest a launch window between late October and early November 2024. However, plans may have changed since the document’s creation. If Microsoft sticks to this timeline, an official announcement should come by June or July 2024.

Specs and Features of the New Xbox Series X
GPU: 12TF
RAM: 16GB
Storage: 2TB
Controller: Codename ‘Sebile’
| Specs | Xbox Series X | Xbox Series X Refresh |
| GPU | 12TF | 12TF |
| RAM | 16GB | 16GB |
| Storage | 1TB | 2TB |
| Controller | Standard | Sebile |
| WiFi | WiFi 5 | WiFi 6 |
| Bluetooth | NO | Bluetooth 5.2 |
| USB ports | 3 USB-A | 2 USB-A, 1 USB-C |
| Max resolution | 4K | 4K |
The new Xbox Series X will abandon the rectangular shape of the current model for a sleek, cylindrical design. While visually appealing, the internal specifications remain largely unchanged. It will feature the same CPU and GPU as the current Xbox Series X, maintaining the 4K resolution target. RAM will also stay at 16GB.
However, there are notable differences. The new model will double the internal storage to 2TB, which is crucial as the Brooklin will not have a disc drive, necessitating all game storage on the hard drive.
Included with the Brooklin will be the new standard controller, codenamed Sebile, which will launch ahead of the console. This controller will connect via Bluetooth 5.2 and Xbox Wireless 2, either to the console or directly to the cloud. It boasts haptic feedback, an accelerometer, and a rechargeable and replaceable battery.
Additionally, the Brooklin will support WiFi 6E, enhancing game downloads and online gameplay stability.
Price of the New Xbox Series X
Expected Price: $499
If the leaks are to be believed, the new Xbox Series X will launch at $499, the same price as the original Series X.
Will the Xbox Series S Also Get a Refresh?
Yes, the leak mentions another console, code-named Elwood, set to launch before the Brooklin. Similar to the new Series X, Elwood will not have increased power but will feature 1TB of storage and the same connectivity improvements.

Will the New Xbox Series X Play Physical Games?
No, the Brooklin will not have a disc drive, meaning all games must be purchased and played digitally or via the cloud. The increased storage and upgraded WiFi are designed to facilitate this shift away from physical media, although this may be inconvenient for those without reliable internet or who prefer physical copies.
The Bottom Line
The Xbox Series X mid-gen refresh is not intended as an upgrade or a leap into next-gen gaming. Current Xbox Series X owners won’t need to upgrade, but it presents an appealing option for Xbox Series S owners. The new controller will be available separately, so purchasing the new console is unnecessary unless you’re upgrading from the Series S or buying an Xbox for the first time.
